Press Release
Commerce Department Publishes Register of Twelve Licensed Markets
Office of the Spokesperson

The Commerce Department of the Velocity Interoperability Network today published its register of licensed markets. Twelve markets at the six principal sites of the Network hold a market licence from 6 September 2026: four covered general markets, two open-air general markets and six specialist markets, including two wholesale markets. Between them the twelve markets provide 1,084 licensed pitches.
Each market on the register was operated before establishment under arrangements made by the member organisation responsible for its site. Those arrangements were reviewed during the transition period from 10 August to 5 September 2026, and each market has been licensed on terms that carry its existing market days and opening hours into the Department's register unchanged. The register, with the location, type, market days and pitch count of every market, is set out on the Markets page of this site.
Markets trade under common rules from today. The rules govern the allocation of pitches, the display of licences and prices, the standards of weights and measures used at stalls, and the conduct of market operators. Applications for a market licence for a new market may be made to the Department from 7 September 2026. Enquiries may be sent to contact@commerce.gov.vin.
